[Being core members of the Voltron coalition meant that sometimes the team had to spread their forces thin in order to take care of everything that required their attention. Sure, they had other allies who could hold their own -the Blade of Mamora for example- but it had a little more impact if the paladins themselves saved a colony or planet, as opposed to more Galra.

In other words: politics.]

I mean, I understand what Coran was saying but I still think it's kinda dumb, right Keith? [Undeterred by Keith's noncommital 'uh huh's and 'yeah's, Hunk continues on as he follows Keith's lead and slows down his approach. They're going to have to try and sneak up on this installation or risk the Galra retaliating against the captured techs for calling for help.] They've been around way longer than we have, and fighting for way longer too! It kinda feels like we're shoving them out of the way to get all the glory. Not that that's what we're doing, but it sure feels like that's what we're doing. I guess in the end it doesn't really matter who gets the job done so long as the people are saved, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Right? Do you have a bad taste in your mouth too, Keith?

[Oh god oh no he was too obvious this is bad Hunk is laughing and he's made a fool of himself which is only the more embarrassing because he's still bleeding out of his leg and maybe Keith will just lay down on his bad side and let that rib puncture his lung so he can drown in his own blood if it means getting out of this situation. That's clearly the best course of action here.

He's never.. had... experience with this kind of thing, he only ever crushed on Shiro and that's all that was and now look where they are, he doesn't know how to deal with this.]

[Okay no for real, his feelings are. Actually kind of getting hurt by that and he didn't think that's how this night would go. But Hunk likes him and that should be a good thing right? But Hunk is laughing about it and about how anxious he is about talking about his feelings.]

I'm just say-heying, hahaha, we're in the middle of nowhere! I crashed my own lion! There's probably horny giant death frogs down in that forest trying to eat us, Galra trying to kill us, teammates possibly in danger because of us and I'm still sitting here- I mean, we're still here around the fire, doing- doing love confessions! [Keith watches him try to collect himself, but Hunk just. can't, he keep babbling and giggling and maybe it's the medicine and exhaustion and pain and fear Hunk's got but this is one time Keith can't simply walk him through to calmness.

Not when it actually hurts having his feelings laughed at in front of him, however well intentioned it may be.

He looks at the fire instead, gives it another fresh stoking just to keep it going so they don't freeze.]

Hey- Wait, no no no, I'm not doing this right. [Oh okay, at Keith's tone and that word, 'stupid,' that's what gets Hunk to finally start paying attention, his snorting laughter dying down. He can't completely wipe the smile off his face because he's just plain too happy, but he can move their leaves aside and crawl over to Keith's side, reaching out to rest a wide hand on his upper back.]

Look- look. I'm sorry. I'm not- It's totally, completely, nowhere even near stupid. Sorry for laughing, I'm just, like, [makes a motion near his head] processing, and happy, and it's getting mixed up and- and it's not stupid. Keith, like, I'm kind of still like, 'what? He likes me?' 'Cause like, why me, y'know? Not because I think it's dumb.

[He listens while he takes in the feeling of that big hand against his back and it's calming. It's one of the things he likes about Hunk, is he can get his head to stop racing when this happens; it's not often, but it happens. More recently since he took over leading.

He runs a hand over his face and takes a long breath. It still hurts to breathe in deep but he needs to, just for this.]

[It's ok Hunk, Keith's always gonna be a little hung up over Shiro but. He's happy with this, in the way he sort of stills under Hunk's hand now that they've figured this out for the most part.]

He's very bad at social cues sometimes. So he reaches his arm under Hunk's to wrap around his back. That's fine, right? Totally casual. Boyfriend thing to do.]

Hunk, it was fine. Seriously, we're in the middle of nowhere with barely a survival kit. It was fine. Just... Thanks for doing it. [It's not like Keith would've bothered fixing anything. He probably would've just laid up somewhere and died without doing anything.]
