[Being core members of the Voltron coalition meant that sometimes the team had to spread their forces thin in order to take care of everything that required their attention. Sure, they had other allies who could hold their own -the Blade of Mamora for example- but it had a little more impact if the paladins themselves saved a colony or planet, as opposed to more Galra.

In other words: politics.]

I mean, I understand what Coran was saying but I still think it's kinda dumb, right Keith? [Undeterred by Keith's noncommital 'uh huh's and 'yeah's, Hunk continues on as he follows Keith's lead and slows down his approach. They're going to have to try and sneak up on this installation or risk the Galra retaliating against the captured techs for calling for help.] They've been around way longer than we have, and fighting for way longer too! It kinda feels like we're shoving them out of the way to get all the glory. Not that that's what we're doing, but it sure feels like that's what we're doing. I guess in the end it doesn't really matter who gets the job done so long as the people are saved, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Right? Do you have a bad taste in your mouth too, Keith?

Soooo...you're not upset or anything. [He's just checking. JUST CHECKING, just...making sure.]

Okay. Okay, I believe you. You can't lie to save your life, anyway. [Heaves a relieved sigh and bows his head against Keith's shoulder.]

[HEY NOW.... He could! If his life depended on it! Probably!

But Hunk leans over him, and Keith sort of. Doesn't know what to do, since he's still holding Hunk's hands. He takes a breath and leans his head against Hunk's.]

Saves us the trouble of having to figure out how to tell them at least.

[Don't gotta do nothing different bcuz this is real nice, half-cuddling and such] What's what I was thinking. And I mean, who really knows how to be space boyfriends anyway? ...besides aliens, I guess. Since they're already in space. Which would be us now that I think about it, seeing as how we're not on Earth and always the ones doing the planet-visiting...

Hunk - [He laughs a little, nudging his head against Hunk's now. This is nice. It's sweet and honestly, relaxing. Not what he expected this to turn out like. He does let go of Hunk's hands to wrap around him instead.]

We'll make it work. Don't really care what it's called. Okay?

[Okay well Keith being all soft and sweet on him is like, hella unexpected but in no way unwanted. In fact Hunk goes a little bit stupid, grinning down at Keith and cuddling around him like a big human blanket.] You got it, buddy. No plan, just flying by the seat of our pants, Keith-style.

Hey, I usually have a plan! [But they never make sense and they're always a little short-sighted. But a plan nonetheless! Like how he finally decides yes this is the time to get the kiss Hunk promised him. He turns his head and--

Can't do it, just kisses Hunk's cheek instead. That's fine, that's totally a good kiss. Exactly like they talked about.]

[Is he gonNA K- oh just a cheek kiss. Hunk takes approximately one second to allow himself to feel insecure about that before he thinks and realizes that Keith probably was just being Keith about this. Because Hunk had been real clear down on that planet; they were gonna kiss. Not friendship kiss, but space boyfriend kiss.

So Hunk pulls back, puts a hand on Keith's jaw and leans in to kiss him on the mouth. ...it's kind of over really quick and he's sorta worried it sucked, but his heart's pounding so maybe it was good?

No, you know what? It was good.] That's a 'we survived together and also hooked up at the same time' kiss.

[Keith sort of freezes when Hunk touches at his jaw. Because this is what he meant, an actual real dating people kiss. It's sweet and chaste, and he leans into it until Hunk pulls away.]

...Yeah. Yeah it is, I guess.

[But. Now that Hunk's pulled that band-aid off, Keith has no reason to hold back. He's wanted to do it for a while but felt he wasn't allowed.

Now he is.

He pulls Hunk back in for another kiss, a little deeper but still sweet. Not going too far not wanting to make Hunk too uncomfortable.]

[OH NO!!!! Keith is taking charge and being all cool!! Heck. That makes Hunk swoon a little bit, especially when Keith presses into it and he only barely suppresses a giddy giggle because he remembers how he'd hurt Keith's feelings before.]

Unfair. Are you good at everything?

[Okay, that giggle gets Keith smiling. He's glad he can get that kind of reaction when he means to.]

I'm not. I'm terrible at singing. And essay portions of tests.

[Y'know. Normal stuff.]

If you're talking about Instructor Gaelin's tests, I promise you it wasn't you. He was just a jerk. [Can he kiss Keith again? Really quick? IS IT CONSIDERED MAKING OUT IF IT'S JUST A BUNCH OF SHORT CLOSED-MOUTH KISSES....]

Yeah, he was. Sorry you had to deal with him.

[Oh man he could get used to this. He didn't realize how touch-starved he was until right now with Hunk giving him so much attention. When Hunk pulls away again, he's grinning from ear to ear.]

[Look at that, Keith's like, leaning into him every time he touches him.

Hunk reaches up to cradle Keith's face in his hands, his hands big enough to cover both sides of his jaw and halfway up his cheeks. He strokes over his cheeks with his thumbs curiously.] You like this, huh...?

Um.

[Oh. That's such a minute change, but it's enough to get his attention. He can feel his face getting red but for the life of him, he can't stop it.]

It's-- It's nice. [Yes he does please don't stop Hunk]

[......geez, keith's pretty]

Your skin's like, crazy soft, man. Did you know that? [Strokes over the swells of his cheeks with the pads of his thumbs, his own face flushing a little]

Um. No, I didn't.

[He leans into the touches, rests his hands over Hunk's.] Your hair is really soft too.

It's in my genes, [Hunk says proudly, though he's going a little deeper red at that.] You totally wanted to touch my hair that night with the campfire, didn't you?

What. [His eyes go a little wide, a kid caught with his hands in the cookie jar.]

I-- I thought you were asleep.

[Not denying it though!!! just don't call him on this!!]

I was! Well- mostly, ish, kinda mostly. I sorta just felt something move my hair a little, and I was sleepy so my brain was like, what was that? And then I remembered you were right there so I guess I just kind of assumed it was you and went to sleep. Which, y'know, was much better than thinking it was some kind of space rat or monster toad or whatever else was in that jungle.

[Oh god did he just incriminate himself??? Shit. His whole face is red now and he can't exactly get his eyes to focus on Hunk's face. It's too embarrassing because of course it was that obvious that it was him.]

Y-yeah. Yeah better than thinking that. I just... Wanted to do that. [It's what he sees most normal couples do anyway.]

And, I mean, if we're being honest, Iiiiii kindawantedyoutotouchmyhairanyway, so y'know, all's well that ends well.

Yeah?

[Well, that's all he needs. He'll take it as permission, reaching his hands from Hunk's hands to his hair, threading the ends between his fingertips. It's as soft as he thought it was, now running fingers through it.]

I agree, it's nice. What else did you want to do?

[THAT FEELS REALLY GOOD ALSO HE'S SO NERVOUS] Oh geez, I dunno. Wow that feels good. Could we maybe get to like a couch or a bed or something and just kind of hang out? Do more of this?
